Meghan Nowland leads the Step Up Together Action Collaborative in Ohio. Partnering with Primary Maternity Care and the University of Cincinnati Hospital and Christ Hospital networks, Meghan Nowland and the Midwifery Policy Collective brings the Step Up Together Action Collaborative to Cincinnati Ohio.

This year’s Action Collaborative participants represent home birth practices, freestanding birth centers, hospitals, and EMS partners from communities across the country, from major urban health systems to small rural communities. Some teams are building new transfer pathways and partnerships from the ground up, while others have years of collaboration, established transfer agreements, shared review processes, and interdisciplinary training to build upon. 

Across participants we share a powerful shared commitment to strengthening trust, communication, emergency readiness, and continuity of care across levels and locations of care, and to ensuring that families experience transfers that are safe, respectful, and patient-centered. We’re excited for the tremendous opportunity to learn from one another, test systems together, and turn that shared commitment into lasting improvements in communities across Cincinnati.

Our goal is to take this training across all of Ohio so that we can lead Quality Improvement in our state and join with the other states who have implemented the program statewide, such as Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and California.
